US and Canadian rig counts see moderate weekly gains

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending October 7, the US rotary rig count increased by two to 524 following an 11-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by two to 94, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by three to 428. The overall rig count is still down by 271 rigs, year-on-year.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by three in the week ending October 7 to 165 following a 24-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is still down by 15 from the same week a year ago.
