US and Canadian rig counts on the upswing

Baker Hughes reported that for the week ending February 21, the US rig count increased by seven to 1,771, following seven-rig decrease the previous week.  The rig count is up by 10 from 1,761 rigs during the same week a year ago.  The oil rig count increased by two to 1,425, whereas the gas rig count increased by five to 342.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by eight in the week ending February 21 to reach 632, following three-rig increase the week before.  However, the Canadian rig count is still down 30 from 662 rigs during the same week a year ago.
