US and Canadian rig counts continue sustained downtrend

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending April 1, the US rotary rig count dropped by 14, following a 12-rig decline the week before. This brings the current US rotary rig count to 450. The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by four to 88, while the number of rigs drilling for oil declined by 10 to 362. The overall rig count is still down by 578 rigs, year-on-year.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count fell by six in the week ending April 1 to 49, following a 14-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now down by 51 from the same week a year ago.
