UkrFA to begin negotiations with US on ferrosilicomanganese deliveries

The Association of Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers (UkrFA) has announced that it will negotiate directly with the US Department of Commerce on the possibility of assumption of voluntary self-restraints on prices in the supply of the Ukrainian ferrosilicomanganese to the US for 2011, instead of the 163 percent antidumping (AD) duty on imports this product.

In line with this opportunity, in November this year the Ukrainian ferroalloy producers intend to begin the process of negotiating with US consumers in relation to the volume and value of ferrosilicomanganese shipments to US.

In addition, UkrFA said it has agreed with US to return to the issue of the revision of the 163 percent AD duty on imports of Ukrainian ferrosilicomanganese in September next year. "Thus, the voluntary self-restraints on price constitute a temporary measure," reads the UkrFA statement.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, in late September this year, due to problems with sales in the domestic market, Ukrainian ferroalloy producers appealed to the US Department of Commerce to revise the AD duty in question; however, they received a negative answer.

The 163 percent AD duty was imposed by the US on imports of ferrosilicomanganese from Ukrainian-based Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant (NZF) and Zaporizhia Ferroalloy Plant (ZFP) in 1994, and is due to remain in effect until September 2011.
