Ukraine’s ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has announced it will partially restart rolling operations which had been halted due to water supply issues following the disaster at the Nova Kakhovka water dam. The company reports that, although the water supply at the mill is still insufficient, the trial restart of operations is due to take place on June 15.

According to the company’s statement, the technical water supply to the plant has decreased by over 60 percent. “Before this disaster the consumption was at 2,500 cubic meters of water and now we consume less that one thousand. In order to adapt ourselves, we were forced to stop some facilities. Now we have an understanding that we can resume the operations at some of the rolling mills,” an AMKR representative stated. The producer will also study alternatives to resolve the water supply problem.

In addition, the situation regarding the water supply in the mining sector is somewhat better due to the organized system of water re-usage for operations, which secures supply for around two to three months of work.

Previously, following the destruction of the water dam at Nova Kakhovka, AMKR had stopped its crude steel production and rolling operations.
