According to the preliminary data issued by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, in January-May 2010 Ukraine registered an 18 percent increase year on year in its finished steel product output to 12.384 million mt and a 21 percent rise in its crude steel output to 13.881 million mt.
In the first five months of 2010, Ukraine saw a 19 percent increase in its pig iron production to 11.847 million mt and a 15 percent growth in its coke output to 7.884 million mt, both compared to the same period last year. In addition, in January-May this year the country's production of steel pipes went up by 22 percent year on year to 715,000 mt, while its output of hardware increased by 39 percent year on year to 112,000 mt.
In its iron ore segment, in the first five months of this year Ukraine produced 31.814 million mt of iron ore and 26.378 million mt of iron ore concentrate - up 36 percent and 37 percent respectively compared to the same period last year. In addition, during the period in question the country's agglomerate production amounted to 17.056 million mt - up 24 percent, while its pellet production totaled 9.322 million mt - up 25 percent, both compared to the data for January-May 2009.
