Ukraine increases steel products output in May
According to statistical data, Ukraine's output of main types of steel products rose month on month in May 2006. Thus, during May 2006 Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 2.87 million tons of pig iron, up 8.8 percent, 3.59 million tons of crude steel, up 7 percent, and 3.17 million tons of finished steel products, up 6.8 percent from April 2006. In particular, Mittal Steel Krivoy Rog, Ukrainian largest steelmaker, upped production of agglomerate by 7.6 percent, that of pig iron by 6.3 percent, that of crude steel by 11.4 percent, and that of finished steel products by 6.2 percent month on month to 1.018 million tons, to 623,000 tons, to 682,000 tons and to 618,000 tons respectively in May 2006. On the total of five months of the current year, the enterprise produced 4.646 million tons of agglomerate, up 11.2 percent, 2.755 million tons of pig iron, up 5.4 percent, 2.983 million tons of crude steel, up 1.9 percent, and 2.763 million tons of finished steel products, up 5.6 percent compared to January-May of the last year.
