In April this year, Turkey’s steel imports increased by 30.4 percent to 1.6 million mt, while the value of these imports moved up by 43.6 percent to $1.3 billion, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the month of April, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports increased by 62.7 percent to 552,000 mt, while its flat steel imports rose by 11 percent to 757,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In April, total long steel product imports were up by 38.7 percent to 138,000 mt, year on year.
In April, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 99 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 124 percent in the same month of 2017.
In the first four months of this year, the country’s steel imports increased by 10.4 percent to 5.7 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 30.6 percent to $4.7 billion, both on year-on-year basis.
In the January-April period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by 27 percent to 2.1 million mt, while its flat steel imports increased by 1.1 percent to 2.7 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 508,000 mt, rising by 10.8 percent year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 113 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 123 percent in the same period of 2017.
