Turkey’s scrap import volume rises in January-August

In the January-August period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 12 percent to 12.9 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $3.5 billion with a 39 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the January-August period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 19.4 percent to 8.1 million mt, its scrap imports from the US fell by 8.2 percent to 2.0 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 1.5 million mt, down 27.6 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 63.2 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 15.5 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 12 percent.
