In May this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 634,168 metric tons, decreasing by 18.27 percent compared to April and down 37.48 percent year on year, while the value of these imports amounted to $77.90 million, down 30.64 percent month on month and decreasing by 46.33 percent year on year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
Meanwhile, in the first five months of the current year, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by 0.15 percent to 3.36 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $475.19 million, down 0.13 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In the first five months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil decreased by 3.54 percent year on year to 1.19 million metric tons. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 823,718 metric tons, up 22.62 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 437,349 metric tons, down 11.65 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in May alone, Turkey's top iron ore source was Brazil with 341,451 metric tons.
