In June this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 653,587 metric tons, increasing by 3.06 percent compared to May and down 21.63 percent year on year, while the value of these imports amounted to $87.54 million, up 12.37 percent month on month and decreasing by 27.8 percent year on year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
Meanwhile, in the first half of the current year, Turkey's iron ore imports decreased by 4.19 percent to 4.01 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $562.73 million, down 5.75 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In the first half of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil decreased by 13.49 percent year on year to 1.36 million metric tons. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 988,330 metric tons, up 47.13 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 597,393 metric tons, down 12.35 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in June alone, Turkey's top iron ore source was Brazil with 169,741 metric tons.
