Turkey’s ferroalloy imports down 19 percent in 2009

Turkey's ferroalloy imports in 2009 declined by 18.95 percent year on year, reaching 314,661 metric tons, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

Accordingly, in 2009 Turkey's ferromanganese imports amounted to 46,760 metric tons, down 36.22 percent, its ferrosilicon imports came to 62,655 metric tons, down 14.54 percent, its ferrosilicomanganese imports stood at 193,324 metric tons, down 1.18 percent and the country's ferrochrome imports totaled 2,786 metric tons, plummeting by 98.58 percent, all compared to 2008.

In the year in question, CIS countries constituted Turkey's primary ferroalloy import source. Ferroalloy imports from these countries accounted for 77 percent of Turkey's total ferroalloy imports, while imports from Europe constituted 9.6 percent and Asian countries 8.5 percent.
