Colakoglu Metalurji, one of Turkey’s key players in the steel industry, is planning to carry out a series of maintenance works. According to sources, the producer will halt crude steel production from September 23, with the maintenance works scheduled for completion by early October. The company’s capacity for crude steel is 3.5 million mt per year.

Along with crude steel, the producer will stop operations at its 800,000 mt per year rebar rolling line for one month starting from September 5. The decision regarding the maintenance is mainly attributed to the low rebar demand in Turkey’s local market as well as currently slow sales abroad. In addition, according to the market information, there might be some lack of square billet feedstock as the producer is naturally concentrating on flats business and slab output, SteelOrbis understands.
