Austria-based pipe maker Benteler has announced that its subsidiary Benteler Automotive and Germany-based steelmaker Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe have signed a memorandum of understanding for the supply of carbon-reduced bluemint® Steel. Bluemint® Steel will be used in the production of vehicle components.

According to the statement, the cooperation between Thyssenkrupp Steel and Benteler will be intensified from 2026.

Benteler Group aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and the company’s steel/tube division aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045 through green electricity. Benteler itself produces green steel in an electric arc furnace at its Lingen steelworks. However, the production volume is not sufficient to cover the needs of Benteler Group.
