Ternium’s recently inaugurated Techgen JV power plant in Mexico will not only supply the group’s own facilities, but also other companies, according to a media report.

The electric power plant, a JV with Tecpetrol, was inaugurated this week in the city of Pesqueria. Ternium Mexico told SteelOrbis in the sidelines of the Alacero conference in Rio last year that it initially expected a November start-up for the plant.

At the time, Maximo Vedoya, CEO at Ternium Mexico, told SteelOrbis the plant was “already producing.” It spent five months in the testing phase, the executive added at the time.

The 900-megawatt plant, comprised of three gas and one steam turbine, will supply energy to the manufacturing plants of Tenaris Tamsa and Ternium in Mexico, with about 10-20 percent of the production sold to other local companies.
