Two Mexican steelmakers, Ternium Mexico and AHMSA, have concluded or started maintenance works at their production lines, according to information from the two companies.

Ternium Mexico said it started last week an “extraordinary maintenance” of its hot rolling mill No. 3, which is located at its Churubusco plant. The goal of the maintenance is help Ternium Mexico produce higher quality products, which currently are not being produced in Mexico.

Due to the maintenance of the equipment, the company said it will temporarily halt activities during 24 days. The stoppage in production is expected to involve up to 2,293 people, considering the peak days of the project.

Ternium is said to have enough inventories to supply the domestic market. As for Q4, Ternium expects a decline in steel shipments due to a weaker demand and due to the stoppage of its hot rolling mill No. 3.

Meanwhile, AHMSA, Mexico’s largest integrated steelmaker, concluded maintenance works at its heavy structural profiles unit located at its No. 1 steel mill.

Works lasted about 15 days and included maintenance of the company’s reheating furnace and profile cutting machines.
