German-based plantmaker SMS Meer has announced that it will supply a premium quality finishing tube rolling mill for the global pipe and tube producer Tenaris' Bay City site in Texas, US.

The first seamless tube plant to be set up by Tenaris at a production site in the US will enable the company to meet the increased demand for precise, high-strength tubes among others for shale-gas extraction in the US. The annual capacity of the seamless tube plant will be 600,000 mt.

The new tube rolling mill is scheduled to go on stream in 2016.
