India’s national transporter Indian Railways (IR) has signed an agreement with Indian steel producer Tata Steel whereby the latter will manufacture various components for the country’s fastest feature-rich passenger trains being introduced in phases, a company statement said on Friday, March 10.

Under the agreement, Tata Steel will manufacture seating systems, structures of panels and windows for the fast passenger trains branded “Vande Bharat” being introduced across rail routes by IR.

IR has planned to manufacture at least 200 passenger train-sets with 16 coaches each over the next three years.

“The seats of this train are specially designed, can rotate up to 180 degrees and have aircraft-like passenger amenities which are a first in India,” Tata Steel, vice president, technology and new materials, Debashsis Bhattacharya, said.
