The UK-based world's largest independent steel trader Stemcor and Indian steelmaker Ispat are currently in the process of forming a joint venture company to construct a coke oven plant at the latter's production unit near Mumbai, though nothing has been finalized yet - a Stemcor representative has told SteelOrbis.

According to various reports, the new coke oven plant will require Rupees 9 billion ($228 million) in investment and will have an annual production capacity of up to 1.5 million metric tons. The coking coal used for production at the new plant is to be sourced from Australia.
