Spanish crude steel production up 4.2 percent in 2015

In 2015, Spanish steel production totaled 14.8 million mt in 2015, up 4.2 percent on year-on-year basis, according to the Spanish steelmakers association Unesid. In the given year, the country’s apparent steel consumption rose by 9.7 percent to 12.6 million mt compared to the prior year.

Spanish finished steel exports amounted to 9.5 million mt, down three percent year on year, while the value of these exports totaled €7.13 million, decreasing by 5.1 percent year on year. 

In the same year, Spanish finished steel imports totaled 8.9 million mt, increasing by 8.1 percent compared to 2014, with the value of these imports amounted to €1.18 million, down 27 percent year on year. The increase in Spanish finished steel imports primarily resulted from a 57 percent year-on-year rise in finished steel imports from China.
