South Korea’s domestic steel plate sales fall sharply in Q3, exports rise

South Korea's three main producers of steel plate, namely, POSCO, Hyundai Steel and Dongkuk Steel, sold 2.02 million mt of steel plate to the domestic market in Q3 this year, down 360,000 mt as compared to Q2. However, the steel plate exports in Q3 of these three steelmakers reached 540,000 mt, marking a record for steel plate exports in a given quarter.
 
In the third quarter, the domestic steel plate sales of POSCO, Dongkuk Steel and Hyundai Steel reached 1.15 million mt, 545,000 mt and 325,000 mt, respectively, down 143,000 mt, 216,000 mt and 1,000 mt quarter on quarter.
