German plantmaker SMS Group has announced that a leading Chinese steelmaker Nanjing Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (Nanjing Steel) has ordered an upgrade for four strands of its continous casting machine at its Nanjing Plant No.2. With this upgrade, according to SMS, the Chinese company aims to improve product quality and productivity, increase flexibility in the processing of a vast steel grade portfolio and to achieve more than 800,000 mt of bloom production per year.
According to the company statement, particular attention was paid to project planning and the delivery schedule in order to minimize shutdown periods. The upgrade is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019.
