Paul Wurth to upgrade blast furnace for EVRAZ NTMK

German plantmaker SMS Group’s subsidiary Paul Wurth has announced that it will upgrade blast furnace No. 6 of EVRAZ NTMK, located at Nizhnij Tagil in the Urals, Russia.

According to Paul Wurth’s statement, the upgraded blast furnace will allow for a capacity increase of 40 percent, enabling 2.5 million mt of pig iron production per year. The technical solutions and the equipment will be the same as the technology installed at NTMK’s new blast furnace No. 7 which went into operation in February 2018.

The completion of the project is scheduled for October 2020.
