Germany-based SMS Group has announced that steelmaker Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH (DEW) has placed an order for a heat treatment line for its Witten site, Germany. This new line will enable bar steel of diameters up to 250 mm to be heat treated directly at the mill's rolling line, while the separate heat treatment process and intermediate storage will no longer be required.

According to the SMS Group statement, the new heat treatment line will be integrated into the material flow of the existing rolling mill. SMS will supply the complete line by the end of 2016, including electrical equipment, automation system and erection. It will be erected in accordance with the latest environmental standards for air, noise and water pollution and will satisfy the IEC Energy Efficiency Directive.
