German plantmaker SMS Group has announced that it will supply a special bar quality (SBQ) rolling mill to Mukand Sumi Special Steel Ltd. (MSSS), a joint venture of India-based Mukand Ltd and Japan’s Sumimoto Corporation. The new rolling mill will be located near Hospet in Karnataka, India and produce straight, round and hexagon bars, wire rod and bar-in-coils. Mukand Sumi is expecting to export specialty steel globally from this unit.
In the first stage, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 400,000 mt, which will be increased to 600,000 mt in the next stage.
Arvind M. Kulkarni, director of Mukand Sumi Special Steel Ltd, stated, “With this new mill, we will be able to expand our position as a leading specialty steel supplier for the fast-growing Indian and worldwide automotive and engineering industries.”
The new SBQ rolling mill is scheduled to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2020.
