German plantmaker SMS Group has announced that it will supply a new steel mill and a new billet caster with six strands for Peru-based Corporacion Aceros Arequipa’s Pisco site.
According to the SMS Group’s statement, the plant will have a capacity of 1.2 million mt per year and produce billets with sections of 130 mm, 160 mm and 180 mm. For the steel mill, SMS will also supply an electric arc furnace with a capacity of 120 metric tons, equipped with innovative technology to secure high productivity levels. The continuous billet caster with six strands will be supplied by SMS subsidiary SMS Concast. Commissioning is scheduled for early 2020.
Aceros Arequipa manufactures long and flat steel products, including wire rod, bars and tubes, and exports to Columbia, Ecuador and Bolivia, besides supplying the local market.
