Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has stated that it has signed a contract with Indian steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for the supply of two coke dry quenching units at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, together with its consortium partner MCK Kutty Engineers Pvt. Ltd.

SMS Group stated that each unit will have a processing capacity of 130 mt of coke per hour. The units will serve the new stamp charge coke oven batteries Nos. 13 and 14 at SAIL’s IISCO facility. The project forms a key component of Steel Authority of India Limited’s crude steel expansion plan, targeting a capacity of 4.8 million mt per year at the Burnpur site.

According to the plantmaker, the project will be executed on a discrete turnkey basis. The scope includes design, engineering, supply, installation, commissioning, electrics and automation, digitalization, and related services.

According to SMS Group, the contract represents a significant step in Steel Authority of India Limited’s modernization program at its IISCO plant, while also reinforcing the long-term collaboration between the plantmaker and the steel producer.
