SMS Demag to supply X-Melt BOF melt shop to VSP

India-based steelmaker Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) has placed an order with German plantmaker SMS Demag for the supply of an X-Melt BOF melt shop for an annual production of 2.8 million mt of liquid steel.

In a statement on the issue, SMS Demag said that, as part of VSP's expansion project with its associated increase in production to 6.3 million mt, the supply of two X-melt ladle furnaces and of a 150 mt RH-TOP vacuum degasser for the production of high quality steel was also agreed.

The new melt shop is scheduled to go into operation in late 2009.
