German engineering and plantmaking company Siemens has announced the receipt of an order from Mexico's largest integrated steel plant, Altos Hornos de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (AHMSA), to modernize AHMSA's existing basic and process automation systems at its hot strip mill in Monclova.
Siemens will supply and install modern automation technology based on the Siroll HM platform, which is specifically designed for hot rolling mills. The modernization project will upgrade AHMSA's hot strip mill to improve the reliability and performance of the automation system. The $21 million project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2011.
Monclova, Coahuila-based AHMSA has an annual liquid steel output capacity of three million metric tons. AHMSA produces flat steel products including hot and cold rolled coil, wide plate, tinplate and tin-free steel. It also produces non-flat steel products such as heavy shapes and light shapes. The company has its own coal mines in Palau, located 112 km from Monclova.
