Minera Peñasquito S.A. de C.V., Mexico-based mining subsidiary of Vancouver, Canada-based Goldcorp Inc., has assigned German plantmaker Siemens to service the gearless drive systems of two ore mills in Zacatecas, initially for a period of one year.

According to a Siemens statement, the order, which also involves maintenance of the associated power systems, will help Minera Peñasquito to increase the availability and reliability of its mills and to minimize downtimes.

Minera Peñasquito operates two 36 foot semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mills to grind the ore, each with a power rating of 19.3 megawatts and fitted with Siemens gearless drive systems. Siemens is handling all the maintenance work for the drive systems and the associated power systems.

Minera Peñasquito produces zinc at its mines among other metals.
