Siemens Metals Technologies has announced the successful completion of the replacement and startup of a BOF (Basic Oxygen Furnace) converter at Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works (NTMK), a subsidiary of the Russian Evraz Group (Evraz).  Siemens completed all the work at the NTMK BOF converter within only 75 days - 15 days less than was originally stipulated by the contract.

The project is a part of NTMK's major modernization program, in the scope of which Siemens will replace three more BOF converters by 2009.

With the completion of all work at NTMK's BOF converters, the annual steel production capacity of each will increase from the current 900,000 to 1.1 million metric tons.
