The Russian steelmaker Severstal Cherepovets plant, an affiliate of Severstal Russian Steel, has announced that by the end of 2008 it plans to commission production with its new cut-to-length equipment at the mill's bent section workshop.

The new equipment will have an annual production capacity of 200,000 mt and will be able to cut coils in thicknesses of 1 to 4 mm, in widths of 900 to 500 mm and weights from 15 mt upwards, and decoil them in strips of 40 to 500 mm width for the production of electro-welded pipes.

The tender for supply of the new equipment was won by Italian equipment producer Novastilmec S.P.A.

The installment of the equipment is scheduled for September 2008, while commissioning of production is planned for November 2008.
