Severstal Russian Steel has announced the production of the first one million mt of large diameter steel pipes with external coating since the commissioning of its pipe production in Kolpino, St. Petersburg city, four years ago.

According to the company's statement, about 95 percent of all tubular products produced by Severstal's pipe rolling complex are shipped to customers with smooth protective external and internal coatings. In the first quarter of this year alone, Severstal shipped more than 96,000 mt of large diameter steel pipes for such major projects as the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta and Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas pipelines, and the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean-2 and Baltic Pipeline System-2 oil pipelines.

In order to increase its output of coated pipes, in 2010 Severstal plans some investment activities directed towards the modernization of its pipe coating line. The total amount of investments in pipe rolling production in 2010 is planned at Ruble 220 million (about $7 million).
