Senegal gives go-ahead to ArcelorMittal mining plans

ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steelmaker, has announced that it has received the go-ahead from the Senegalese authorities for its mining, transportation and logistics development plans for the country.

According to the press release issued by ArcelorMittal, the concessions for the group's $2.2 billion project, which includes an iron ore mine, the building of a new port and the development of nearly 750 km of railway between the mine and the port, were officially secured on July 18, 2007.

Once started, high grade iron ore production at the mine will be 25 million mt annually.
