Germany-based steelmaker Salzgitter Group has announced that its subsidiary Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH (ILG) has launched its new heat treatment line project, which is the largest investment in the location to date. The investment for the project totals more than €150 million. Commissioning of the new line is planned for early 2020. The heat treatment line will have an annual production capacity of 200,000 mt of heavy plates.

According to Salzgitter, the new line will concentrate on the heavy plate activities at the Ilsenburg plant and fulfill the highest standards regarding quality and flatness. The heat treatment line will enable the production of a broad product portfolio, including particularly sophisticated heavy plate grades. The product range of the line will include high-strength carbon steel, wear-resistant steel, nickel-alloyed steel, steel products for wind turbine offshore constructions and steel grades for pressure vessel construction.
