Russian crude steel output rises in Jan-Apr

In the first four months of 2010, Russia registered a 24.6 percent increase year on year in its crude steel production to 21.3 million metric tons.
 
During the period in question, Russia produced 16.3 million metric tons of pig iron - up 30.2 percent year on year, and 18.4 million mt of finished steel products - up 23 percent year on year. The above finished steel production figure includes 5.6 million metric tons of long products - up 9.8 percent, and 8.9 million metric tons of flat rolled products - up 36.3 percent, of which 2.8 million metric tons were cold rolled steel products - up 32.9 percent, all compared to January-April 2009.
 
According to preliminary data issued by Russian steel producers, in January-April 2010 Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) increased its finished steel products output by 33.8 percent, Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) increased  its finished output by 29 percent, Severstal Cherepovets - by 25.9 percent, Mechel's Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant - by 11.8, and Evraz's Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works (NTMK) - by 0.4 percent, all compared to the same period last year.
