Japanese crude steel output up 1.8 percent in March

In March this year, Japanese crude steel production was up 6.5 percent compared to the previous month and up 1.8 percent compared to March last year, totaling 8.88 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). 
 
Meanwhile, in March of the current year Japan's pig iron production totaled 6.56 million metric tons, rising by 5.4 percent compared to the previous month and down by 2.7 percent year on year.
 
In the first quarter of this year, the country's pig iron output stood at 19.7 million metric tons, down 1.8 percent, while its crude steel production came to 26.23 million metric tons, rising 1.5 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
