Russian crude steel output rises by 2.4 percent in 2011

According to the State Statistics Committee of Russia (Russtat), in 2011 Russia registered a 2.4 percent increase year on year in its crude steel production to 68.4 million mt.

In the given period, Russia saw a nine percent increase in its steel pipe production to 10 million mt and a 3.2 percent rise in its finished steel output to 59.5 million mt, both on year-on-year basis. The country's production of pig iron went up by 0.3 percent year on year to 48.2 million mt during the past year.

In addition, in 2011 Russia produced 334 million mt of coal and 104 million mt of iron ore concentrate, up 3.8 percent and 7.9 percent respectively compared to 2010. In the same period, Russia's metallurgical coke output increased by 1.1 percent year on year to 27 million mt.
