According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in the first five months of 2007 the country registered a one percent drop in coal mining output against a 3.5 percent rise in iron ore mining output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 128 million and 43 million.
In addition, during the same period Russia produced 14.1 million metric tons of coke - up 4.7 percent, 21.6 million metric tons of pig iron - down 1.2 percent, 25.1 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 5.2 percent, and 3.7 million metric tons of steel pipes - up 25 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of last year.
