Retail sales up in Euro zone, EU

Based on the data released by the European Union statistics office Eurostat, retail sales rose 1.4% year on year in the Euro zone and 2.1% year on year in the 25 member states of the European Union (EU) in March 2005. Among the member states, total retail trade rose in Denmark (8.2%), Slovakia (8.1%), Sweden (8%), Portugal (4.3%), the UK (3.8%), Lithuania (3.5%), Belgium (2.7%), Luxembourg (2.6%), Spain (1.8%) and Germany (0.6%), while the only fall was recorded in Poland (-5.7%).
