POSCO to produce more high quality steel

The Plate Rolling Department of South Korean Pohang Iron and Steel Company's (POSCO) Pohang Works held a ceremony to commemorate the completion of improvements in Plate Mill II on July 27th. The improvements, which increased the capacity of Plate Mill II by 400'000 tons, mark the first step in the launch of Pohang Works' system of high-quality steel production. POSCO plans to increase its high-quality steel production to account for 50 percent of its total plate rolling production by 2008. Such a move would greatly increase POSCO's competitiveness in plate rolling via high value-added products. Ultimately, the Plate Rolling Department expects to achieve high global standards in rolled steel productivity and to meet the standards of Six Sigma with the quality deviation of its products.
