Luxembourg-based plantmaker Paul Wurth has announced that it has received orders for two new blast furnaces to be built by Turkish integrated steelmaker Oyak Mining and Metallurgy Group, at its Ereğli and Iskenderun steel plants. In both cases, one completely new furnace will replace an older production unit.

At Ereğli on Turkey’s Black Sea shore, Erdemir’s new blast furnace will produce 5,000 mt of pig iron per day, while at the Isdemir works in Iskenderun on the Mediterranean coast the new blast furnace will produce 7,900 mt daily, which further increases the pig iron capacity at this site.

Paul Wurth said that the new blast furnace at Erdemir will be operational in March 2021, while the new blast furnace at Isdemir will come into operation in May 2021.
