Outokumpu starts up converter supplied by Primetals Technologies

UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that the converter it supplied to Finnish stainless steel producer Outokumpu Stainless Oy was started up in December 2018. According to the company statement, the modernization project involved the installation of damper system developed by Primetals on the tilting drive. The patented system reduces wear and maintenance costs, while also lengthening the service life of the plant. 

The converter was supplied to Outokumpu’s integrated production complex in Tornio, Lapland, which has a cold rolling capacity of 1.2 million mt per year.
