Oregon Steel to build new pipe mill

Portland-based Oregon Steel Mills Inc (OSM) is reportedly planning to build a new pipe mill in Portland. The mill will produce spiral welded pipes. Although no agreement has been made with any contractor, OSM expects the construction of the mill to be completed by the end of 2005. Moreover, OSM plans to close its pipe mill in Napa, California to reduce cost. Currently the mill in Portland supplies plate to Napa mill to be converted into pipes. However through the establishment of the new pipe mill in Portland, the company will eliminate the cost of transportation.
