Nippon signs coke agreement with Mitsui Mining

According to the statement released by Japanese steel producer Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC), the company has signed a long-term agreement with Mitsui Mining regarding coke supply. In line with the agreement, Mitsui Mining will reactivate dormant coke-oven battery, which has an annual production capacity of 500'000 tons, to produce metallurgical coke. All the production at the coke-oven battery will be purchased by NSC for a period of ten years. Mitsui's coke oven battery called Battery 1A was idled in December 1988 and has not been operational since then. After the coke-oven battery starts operations, the coke production of Mitsui will reach 2.1 million tons from the current 1.6 million tons.
