Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that in 2015 its steell product supplies to shipbuilders increased for the second consecutive year, rising by 11 percent year on year to 86,000 mt. The company’s steel shipments had risen by 37 percent year on year to 78,000 mt in 2014. According to MMK, it supplies up to half of all steel products sold to the Russian shipbuilding industry.

MMK stated that its steel production for the shipbuilding industry has increased since the commissioning of its thick plate mill 5000 in 2009. The thick plate mill can produce steel used in production for the Russian naval fleet, tankers, and modern ice-class vessels.
