The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the restarting of operations at converter No.1 at its oxygen converter shop, after a scheduled overhaul.

The repair works in question, which were started in late August 2009, included the simultaneous replacement of the frame of the converter and of the cooling boiler equipment.

MMK's oxygen converter No.1, which was put into operation in 1990, has an annual capacity of more than three million mt of steel.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, in summer last year MMK repaired its oxygen converter No.2, while at the beginning of 2009 the company finished the overhaul of its third oxygen converter.
