Mexico’s economy secretariat, SE, decided to maintain existing definite countervailing duties (CVD) over the imports of graphite electrodes for electric arc furnaces (EAFs) from China, it said on Tuesday.

Imports of Chinese graphite electrodes are currently subject to varying CVD rates, ranging from 38 to 250 percent depending on the exporter:

• M. Brashem Inc: 38 percent
• Jilin Carbon: 42 percent
• Nantong Yangzi Carbon: 93 percent
• Henan Sanli Carbon Products: 185 percent
• Sichuan Guanghan Shida Carbon: 250 percent
• All others: 250 percent

SE also announced that it will review the existing duties; the period of review will go from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2016, while the period of analysis starts on January 1, 2012 and ends on December 31, 2016.

The duties and timeframe were also applied to UK-based exporter UKCG, which uses graphite bars from China.

The review of the existing duties followed a request from local producer GrafTech Mexico.
