Mexico’s economy secretary, Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, urged the country’s steelmakers not to provide steel for the Trump administration’s proposed border wall.

“I hope Canacero in the freedom it has takes the right decision,” he said during remarks at Canacero’s 69th Assembly. “There are things that are important than businesses, and these are called principles.”

Despite making its position clear, the Mexican government’s representative said the country wouldn’t issue any measure against steelmakers that later agree to provide steel for building the border wall. Currently, the project is in the early proposal stage, with the administration collecting bids from prospective contractors and suppliers.
