Mexican auto production and exports up in December

Mexican production of autos in December rose 1.5 percent, year-on-year, to 246,248 units, the country’s automotive industry association, AMIA, said.

According to AMIA, exports of autos in the last month of the year totaled 252,723 units, a 16.7 percent increase year-on-year. On the other hand, domestic sales of cars in December dropped 17.6 percent year-on-year to 158,717 units.

As for the full year of 2017, auto production improved 8.9 percent to 3.7 million units compared to 2016 figures.

On a year-on-year basis, Mexican exports of cars in 2017 rose 12.1 percent to 3.1 million units, while domestic sales in the same period fell 4.6 percent to 1.5 million units.
